One thing we never expected to see is the beach where Nick learned to surf, Bay St. in Santa Monica, become a —named to the of National . ———————— Anna Trent Moore told this for a tribute ・・・ “Nick Gabaldon (1927-1951) My father Buzzy Trent told me the story of Nick throughout my young life, and I’ve never forgotten it. was born on February 23, 1927 in to Cecelia Gabaldon, of AfricanAmerican descent, and Nicolas Gabaldon, of Hispanic descent. Little is known of Nick’s upbringing and most history that can be found on him refers to Nick as the first-documented surfer of descent. Buzzy Trent was a lifeguard at Santa Monica, and his tower rested in front of a small area of referred to by some as the “”. A place where gathered to enjoy the . It was here that Buzzy first met Nick while manning his tower. He took an immediate liking to him and offered to let him use the lifeguard rescue ( or ) to learn how to surf.
