You are witnessing some of the brutality of the Ukrainian Civil War, a war on a scale not seen in over a decade and a half. According to estimates made by an accredited news site, over 10,000[1] have been killed in the Ukrainian conflict since 2014. The death and devastation has caused a humanitarian crisis, with 2.6 million[2] Ukrainians fleeing from the war-torn east. However, international MSM has remained surprisingly silent. Although 1.4 million[2] of the refugees of the conflict still reside somewhere in Ukraine, 1.2 million[2] are spread across the world, predominantly in Europe. >>>
As of this month (February 2017) one of the wars largest offensives is underway, but still large-scale coverage is nowhere to be seen. Larger media sites seem to care more for Middle Eastern and North African refugees over the battered refugees of the Ukrainian Civil War. #UkrainianCivilWar #War #HumanitarianCrisis #NeverForget 1457096004686892267_618677452

The United States' own drug policy has created war zones throughout Latino America as well as the black and brown communities within our borders. In our own "exceptional" arrogance, we refuse to acknowledge our government's (and the corporate masters of our government's) role in seeding and stoking these kinds of humanitarian and economic crisis. The basic compact of human solidarity has been severely disrupted by profiteering interests who control our media, political system, economy, and indeed, the public consciousness itself.
We must ask ourselves who the true criminals of our society are: the fleeing refugee, or the capitalist who manipulates politicians to encode their profiteering, racist ideology under the guise of public safety and justice? Is it the asylum-seeker escaping drug cartel violence or the CEO of the private prison company who makes millions off the incarceration of both primarily black and brown American citizens and the asylum-seeker's detention?

Let's talk about it.

Check david_verberckt_photography's Instagram An important reminder, if needed, that refugees don't leave their homeland for the sake of getting a better life but for escaping persecution, violence, war, torture, rape, discrimination and death.
Since October 2016 a renewed wave of ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity are being perpetrated against the Rohingya population of Northern Rakhine in Myanmar.
Nearly 100,000 Rohingya have crossed into Bangladesh in a deep state of trauma since October.
Every day more arrive, every day the killings continue.
