More in β€œThis Month in the History of Gender and Medicine!” . . Fannie Farmer opened her own cooking school in Boston #OTD in 1902. Though Farmer is best remembered for her famous Boston Cooking-School Cook Book, which introduced the concept of standardized measures for American recipes, she also wrote extensively on diet and nutrition during sickness and lectured at Harvard Medical School on the subject. In her 1905 book, Food and Cookery for the Sick and Convalescent, Farmer paid particular attention to the nutritional requirements of infants and diabetics.

Can anyone name this monument? Here’s three clues: it’s in Stirling, Scotland, it’s in honor of a Scottish knight and hero, he was hanged, drawn, and quartered #OTD in 1305. Bonus clue, I’ll be visiting in less than a week!! 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Mesmerising! The fantastical Naum Gabo passed away #otd in 1977 aged 87 leaving us with many wondrous sculptural constructions such as this! Shot on my iPhone whilst taking images for a catalogue I love the patterns made by the nylon filaments and perspex with the touch of genius of the two small black perspex elements as it rotates! Naum was a master of capturing space in art and making it a solid form! The original conceptions were designed to rotate like this at the entrance to the Esso building although the company baulked at the projected cost and did not proceed with the project but Naum went on to make over twenty versions which can be seen in many collections and museums such as the Tate in London Possibly his masterpiece and the work he most often revisited, this unique version is from 1957-1958....Linear Construction in Space No. 2 and is to be offered in The Jeremy Lancaster Collection @christiesinc London October 1.
