747 looked like he was about to burst at the seams today. It’s hard to imagine how large he is, but Mike Fitz from @exploreorg said that 747 was the biggest bear he has ever seen 😳 💦🐻🐟 #nopebblemine

Iliamna, Alaska

I realize it’s difficult to get people to buy into the idea that a place they’ll likely never see personally is of paramount importance to protect from the perils of something that could ruin it forever. That’s how I sometimes view the Pebble Mine problem. So when I got to see and photograph the spawning of millions of sockeye salmon taking place in the eastern region of Bristol Bay firsthand, the importance of fighting against Pebble became more clear to me than its ever been. On top of the looming threat of mineral resource extraction, this ecosystem is also fighting the effects of climate change. During my 7 days on the Iliamna River, 25 year record low flows were dipping daily and I visibly saw what should be Alaska’s rainy season look and feel more like the tropics than a thriving salmon habitat. Bristol Bay is no place for a mine capable of pushing the delicate balance of nature past the point of no return. Visit to learn how you can help fight the Trump Administration wreckless advancements and save Bristol Bay. #nopebblemine
