Self Growth & Healing

This season was my worst gardening season ever. I couldn't get my plants to thrive no matter what I did, at least not like I'm used to. I read books on gardening, I tried new techniques, I spent even more time in the garden. But still my plants produced a small amount of veggies instead of the bountiful harvests I've had in the past. If you know me even a little bit you know what gardening means to me and the summer season is the time I wait for all year with excitement and plans ready to go of what I'm going to plant. And this year was a bust. The funny thing is I didn't feel disappointed the way I thought I would. I learned sooooo much by reading the books I read and trying new techniques and spending more time out there. Studying the bugs and learning which were beneficial and which were harmful, the soil to learn about ph levels and water drainage and the leaves to look for disease and nutrient deficiencies. I read blogs to learn about urban farming, joined a community of local gardeners on Facebook that share seeds, and made new friends at family owned nurseries by my house while asking them for advice. If my garden had been successful this year I never would have spent the time doing all of that. For me growth can at first be disguised as failure. That takes place in many other parts of my life besides gardening. Parenting, recovery, school, work, self care, relationships. It turns out nothing is a failure, it's a way for us to learn how to expand our hearts towards ourselves or others or the Universe...if we allow it. So every year I plant sunflowers but every year they wither and die when they are a foot tall, leaving me bummed because sunflowers are high on my list of things to plant every summer. Well check it out. Look what decided to grow this year when everything else sucked. Gotta love it. @morganharpernichols #learning

Yesterday these guys were nowhere near ready to pick. Today they're massive. Not overripe. Just huge. This is no till. This is home made compost and cardboard mulch. This is a milk shower at least once a month. My garden has never done so well with as little effort. And this isn't even going into how many beneficial insects I've seen this year out there! This just goes to show... the less you mess with Mother Nature, the more she will reward your kindness. I've learned so much in the past few years especially. I'm thrilled to think of what I will continue to learn in the future and how much better things will get. 💕 #learning

Gauguin's painting “Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?” (D’où venons-nous ? Qui sommes-nous ? Où allons-nous ?) sums up Gauguin’s life. He used elements found in his other paintings to create the large fresco. It was his last project before his attempted suicide. ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° ° #learning
