Posted @withrepost@basserbrca The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has expanded its recommendations for who should undergo genetic testing for BRCA mutations to assess their risk of cancer, but Susan M. Domchek, MD, Executive Director of the Basser Center, says the new guidelines do not go far enough. Email us at basserinfo at uphs.upenn.edu if you want to read her editorial for the Journal of the American Medical Association or read her interview with Reuters (link in bio). . . . https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-brca-screening/expert-panel-updates-advice-on-brca-cancer-gene-screening-idUSKCN1VA1RX . . . ****My note: this testing and my choice to do something about my results saved my life from breast cancer. My MRI 3 weeks prior to surgery was clear as were all hand exams by 2 surgeons, myself, and 1 oncologist as well as my mammogram in February. The pathology report from my "preventative" double mastectomy found cancer in my left breast. The margins were such that I don't require further treatment however my breast surgeon said that had I not gotten the mastectomy, I would've had aggressively invasive breast cancer within 5-10 years! And know this... lifestyle changes aren't necessarily associated with genetic-based cancers. I'm making lifestyle changes because now that I've fought hard to reduce my risk in areas I could, it wouldn't make sense to be careless in areas not involved with hereditary cancer. The oncologists told me that being healthy will not reduce your risk for genetic-based cancers. Don't take it from me...do your own research! Technology and science can be your friend. Knowledge IS power!**** . . . #doyourownresearch

Abstract Improved methods and apparatus for entraining human brain patterns, employing frequency following response (FFR) techniques, facilitate attainment of desired states of consciousness. In one embodiment, a plurality of electroencephalogram (EEG) waveforms, characteristic of a given state of consciousness, are combined to yield an EEG waveform to which subjects may be susceptible more readily. In another embodiment, sleep patterns are reproduced based on observed brain patterns during portions of a sleep cycle; entrainment principles are applied to induce sleep. In yet another embodiment, entrainment principles are applied in the work environment, to induce and maintain a desired level of consciousness. A portable device also is described. ° #doyourownresearch
