Posted @artscatalyst Very pleased to announce our next exhibition: ‘Tales from the Crust’ is a new exhibition and programme investigating the politics of extraction across the planet. Building on ongoing research into extractive activities in Chile and Swedish Sábme, Tales from the Crust presents existing and new work by Chilean artist Ignacio Acosta, comprising documents, films, photographs, maps and objects. Through an in-depth visual and spatial exploration, the works presented in the exhibition are articulated as a series of overlapping case studies of extractive violence. These include Parque Andino Juncal, an Andean conservation park currently fighting against mining exploration; and Caimanes, an agricultural town heavily affected by water contamination and scarcity by Latin America’s largest toxic dam El Mauro from Los Pelambres copper mine. Resistance Labs is a series of accompanying discursive events, workshops and broadcasts that will bring to the fore existing forms of solidarity between various anti-mining movements, and address the role that counter-actions can play on a planetary scale. #TalesfromtheCrust #IgnacioAcosta #extractablematters https://www.artscatalyst.org/ignacio-acosta-tales-crust Image: Ignacio Acosta: Mose Agestam at Burning Machine Festival. I used to share a space ship with these guys but they've left me on terra firma to take on a fascinating mission to collect diverse DNA in a bid to save the future human race which has been forcibly homogenised. They look like they're the right team for the job right? They've touched down at @artscatalyst in Kings Cross to collect DNA stories (Dreamed Native Ancestry) and hold workshops and performances on genetics, migration and evolution. Like the riveting workshop tonight examining the ethics behind artists @larryachiampong and @david_blandy_ new personal DNA project. Why not rock up any weekend to @artscatalyst until end of Jan and leave your own DNA in the generative installation - I'll be interviewing evolutionary geneticist Dr Mark Thomas on the space ship on Jan 13th.
