Falafel recipe 🥗 . . . Soak dried chickpeas overnight for your falafel to turn out right; canned beans are too tender & contain too much moisture to achieve the right consistency. Don’t cook the beans, because this will result in a mushy falafel, which is not the proper texture. . . . 🥣 Recommended Products: Food Processor Oil Thermometer . . . Falafel Ingredients (30-34 balls) 🔹1 lb dry chickpeas/garbanzo beans - start with dry, do NOT substitute canned, they will not work! 🔹1 small onion, roughly chopped 🔹1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley 🔹3-5 cloves garlic (I prefer roasted garlic cloves) 🔹1 1/2 tbsp flour or chickpea flour 🔹1 3/4 tsp salt 🔹2 tsp cumin 🔹1 tsp ground coriander 🔹1/4 tsp black pepper 🔹1/4 tsp cayenne pepper 🔹Oil for frying - grape seed, sunflower, avocado work well . . . 🔸Directions:
Pour dry chickpeas into a large bowl & cover them with 3 inches of cold water. Let them soak overnight, they’ll double in size . . . 🔸Drain & rinse beans. Pour them into food processor along with the rest of the ingredients. *If you have a smaller food processor, you will want to divide the ingredients in half & process the mixture one batch at a time. . . 🔸Pulse all ingredients together until a rough coarse meal forms. Scrape the sides of the processor periodically & push the mixture down the sides. Process till the mixture is between the texture of couscous & a paste. You want the mixture to hold together, & a more paste-like consistency will help with that... but don't over process because it will turn into hummus! . . 🔸Pour it into a bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap & refrigerate for 1-2 hours. . . 🔸Fill skillet with oil to a depth of 1 ½ inches. Heat oil slowly over medium heat between 360 & 375 degrees F; use the deep fry/candy thermometer. . . 🔸Form falafel mixture into round balls using 2 tbsp of mixture per falafel. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side to brown. If it browns faster than that, your oil is too hot & your falafels will not be fully cooked in the center. Cool the oil down slightly & try again. . . 🔸Once the falafels are fried, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Serve as you wish!

I attended a profound couples workshop in San Fran called Hold Me Tight with my love Jamal. Whether your relationship is in great shape or bad, it’s for everyone! It will bring deeper understanding & connection to all your relationships. Jamal & I left the workshop with deep gratitude for the enlightenment we gained. . . . The workshop run by Dr. Michelle Gannon & Dr. Sam Jinich who are Clinical Psychologists, Individual & Couples Therapists & Workshop Leaders in San Francisco. EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) helps partners to understand more clearly each other’s deepest emotions. Feelings are often hidden, unexpressed or misunderstood. Our relationships can be a cause of stress & pain or a source of comfort & joy. . . You will learn: 🔹Affirm strengths in your relationship 🔹Address negative interaction patterns 🔹Understand more clearly each other’s emotions 🔹Recognize underlying reasons for your conflicts 🔹Learn how to repair & forgive 🔹Enhance your emotional & physical closeness 🔹Improve your communication 🔹Be more accessible, responsive & emotionally engaged with each other . . . Gems from the workshop: ❤️ We often try to fault others for our mistakes because it makes us feel like we’re still in control. But leaning into the discomfort of mistakes is how we can learn from them. Here’s what we know from the research, blame is simply the discharging of discomfort, anger & pain. It has an inverse relationship with accountability. Blame is faster than accountability. Accountability is a vulnerable process that takes courage & time. People who blame a lot seldom have the tenacity & grit needed to hold people accountable. Blamers spend all of our energy raging for 15 seconds & figuring out whose fault something is. It’s difficult to maintain relationships when you’re a blamer, because when something goes wrong, we’re too busy making connections as quickly as we can about whose fault it is, instead of slowing down, listening, & leaving enough space for empathy to arise. ❤️ Fear blocks empathy ❤️ Vulnerability is the birthplace of joy, creativity, belonging, & love. You can’t selectively numb bad feelings without numbing joy, happiness, & love.

Brooklyn, New York

I just came back from visiting my hometown Brooklyn. I flew out with my love to handle some important business and see my mom who still lives there. Every time I go back it’s drastically different. Brooklyn definitely feels more and more like Manhattan with each visit. The quaint Brooklyn neighborhoods are now crowded with people. It’s hard to process the place you grew up changing so much and so fast. I’ll be honest, I don’t like it. It feels weird and like it’s lost its authenticity and realness. But what major city is not going through these changes? Where do we call home when home doesn’t feel like home anymore? I’m learning that my home is no longer a place, that home for me is with the people I love. . . .

@jam_all and I have some pretty crazy ass life stories between the both of us! Before we met we had both been previously married and divorced. We both became parents at a young age. And we both have had our fair share of hardships and traumas dating back from childhood. . . . We both decided not to settle and to make space for what we really desired in our life. And that’s how I believe we found each other. I met Jamal one night as I hopped out of an Uber with beautiful @saada___ . We both commented on this good looking guy that walked out of the sports bar we were about to head into. Saada proceeded to go up to him and say she was my wing woman. @jam_all introduced himself & bought us drinks at the sports bar. We talked and he asked me to lunch. @saada___ must have told me about 3 times that night that I better go on a date with this guy, and that she could tell he was really into me. Thank you Saada for the divine connection and encouraging me to go out with him that night. Because I most likely would have not gone on the date knowing how I am. Our first date he actually ended up taking me to dinner and we’ve been inseparable ever since! . . . We are both trying to navigate these new spaces we’re in the best we can with what we have learned from our own past and our experiences. It’s been both challenging and so rewarding to create a new life together. To dream again and create new dreams together. . . . Don’t ever think you have to settle. Don’t ever think you won’t find love again. Don’t ever think you have too much baggage for someone to love and accept you as you are. As long as you are always working on yourself, self-reflecting and working toward becoming a better human, you will align yourself with those who are doing the same. . . . Here’s to loving again and dreaming again. ❤️

My new favorite all natural toothpaste by @prncpls because most store bought toothpaste is dangerous❗️Here’s what’s in non natural toothpastes: . . . 🔺 Triclosan. The United States Environmental Protection Agency classifies triclosan as a pesticide, posing a risk to both human health & the environment. Scientists categorize triclosan as a chlorophenol, which is a type of chemical suspected of causing cancer in humans. It can also cause reduced fertility & development issues in the fetus. . . 🔺Sodium Fluoride a rat & cockroach killer is a poison toxic chemical that can potentially cause skeletal fluorosis, thyroid problems & is even linked to bone cancer when consumed. According to the Akron Regional Poison Center, ingesting 1/10 of an ounce of fluoride can kill a 100-lb. adult. . . . 🔺Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or SLS is a famous ingredient in soaps, shampoos, detergents, toothpaste & other cosmetic products. This is one of the most dangerous ingredients your toothpaste can contain. Studies have shown that SLS can cause aphthous ulcers, skin irritations & most importantly it is a carcinogen. According to the American College of Toxicology, SLS can stay in the body for up to five days accumulating in the heart, liver, lungs & brain. When combined with certain other chemicals, sodium laurel sulfate transforms into nitrosamines, a class of powerful carcinogens that cause the body to absorb harmful nitrates. . . . 🔺Propylene Glycol is a form of plastic & polyester which is used as a gelling agent for toothpaste. Research has claimed that this chemical is known to cause liver, kidney & brain abnormalities. . . . 🔺Titanium dioxide that is used in paints & varnishes is also used in toothpaste to make it shiny & white. Research on rats have shown that these chemicals are known to produce chronic lung cancer & other types of cancer. . . . 🔺Hydrated Silica causes damage to your teeth enamel. This is what the micro beads in toothpaste are made of. The micro-beads trap food particles in the long run & cause cavities, gingivitis & other gum problems. Plastics are not meant to be consumed they are cancer causing. . . . 🔺Polyethylene chemical for the most common plastic

Life has really humbled my ass on so many levels. But I’m allowing it to teach me and strengthen me, even when there are times I feel like throwing in the towel, because I know I have a choice in that. I’m learning to be patient and wait certain things out, trust the process, and allow things to unfold naturally. Shit is hard though! I have to remind myself almost daily to be patient, trust and let go of things that are out of my control. Good news is I’m definitely getting stronger and wiser. And right now I’m being patient with myself as I reinvent and grow into this new narrative for my life. . . . Right now my life’s mantra is, be patient, be calm, be positive, and be yourself. ☀️🌵

Celebrated this bad asses birthday out in the desert. . . . Happy birthday my love! You are an incredible father, a cancer survivor and just the most resilient person I know! I’m a better person because of you for so many reasons. You’ve taught me acceptance and unconditional love. But what I admire most about you is your strength and positivity through life’s darkest times. You’re my rock and my protector. . . . Thank you for being such a loving and nurturing soul. Thank you for strengthening me in my weakest moments. Thank you for choosing me to be your life partner. I celebrate you and love you always. 🌵🎂 . . .
