New friendships tend to blossom between students at back-to-school time. #BeSMART: Before your child or teen visits the home of a friend, be sure to ask if there are guns in the home and how they are stored. It could mean the difference between life and death.⠀
Americans turned out in droves at Recess Rallies across the country this weekend, demanding the U.S. Senate take action to require background checks on all gun sales and pass a strong Red Flag law.⠀ ⠀ Thank you to all who came out to make your voices heard! #recessrally
HAPPENING NOW: This weekend, while Congress is on recess, we’re rallying in communities across the country to demand the Senate pass legislation requiring background checks on ALL gun sales in America and a strong Red Flag law. It’s not too late to join us! Text RALLY to 644-33 to find a #RecessRally in your community.
Each day Congress is on recess, 100 Americans die and hundreds more are wounded by senseless and preventable gun violence.⠀ ⠀ Demand the Senate take action on gun safety laws by attending a #RecessRally on 8/17 or 8/18. Text RALLY to 644-33 to find one in your area.
We are so grateful to not only the gun violence survivors who shared their stories at last weekend’s Presidential #gunsenseforum, but to all those who courageously share their stories every single day.⠀ ⠀ If you are among the 58 percent of American adults who have been personally affected by gun violence, stand in solidarity with survivors by signing our letter telling the Senate to require background checks on all gun sales, and to pass a strong Red Flag bill. Find the letter at the link in our bio.
We don’t have to live like this.⠀ ⠀ Tell the Senate it's past time to pass background checks on all gun sales and a strong Red Flag law by attending a #RecessRally. Text RALLY to 644-33 to find one in your area.
Some things should not be all-American.⠀ ⠀ Learn more about the devastating impact of gun violence in America at the link in our bio.
As senators are back home for recess, we are keeping the fight for gun safety close to home by holding Recess Rallies to demand the Senate pass background checks on all gun sales and a strong Red Flag law.⠀ ⠀ At the link in our bio, find a #RecessRally event in your community.
Two years ago today, hundreds of white supremacists — many of whom were openly carrying firearms — descended on Charlottesville, Virginia, to protest the removal of a Confederate statue. The protest quickly escalated into violence, resulting in multiple injuries and the death of counter-protestor, Heather Heyer. Since then, attacks by white supremacists have grown, and dozens of Americans have died in hate-fueled violence.⠀ ⠀ Today serves as an important reminder that we must act to #DisarmHate in all its forms.⠀ ⠀
At yesterday's Presidential #GunSenseForum, candidates encouraged us to keep up our advocacy for smarter gun laws because it's making a difference. Next weekend, join @momsdemand & @studentsdemand volunteers in every state to demand that the Senate take action to address gun violence. Text RALLY to 644-33 to find a #RecessRally near you.
Americans deserve a president who is not only unafraid to engage in meaningful dialogue about gun violence, but will take action. Today’s Presidential #GunSenseForum made it clear these candidates mean business. Thank you to all who participated. @michaelbennet @joebiden @governorbullock @pete.buttigieg @juliancastrotx @billdeblasio @tulsigabbard @kirstengillibrand @kamalaharris @johnhickenlooper @jayinslee @amyklobuchar @timryanforamerica @berniesanders @elizabethwarren @andrewyang2020
All day Saturday, we will be live-streaming a Presidential #GunSenseForum featuring at least 16 candidates for president. ⠀ ⠀ What questions would you most want to ask the 2020 candidates about their plans to address our nation's gun violence crisis?
In America, gun violence never takes a break. ⠀ ⠀ While Congress is in recess, let’s send a clear message that we will not stand for inaction on gun violence. Join us in your community for a #RecessRally event on 8/17 or 8/18. Find an event near you at the link in our bio.
Brenda Moss should be with her son, Shawn, today, celebrating his 39th birthday, but his life was senselessly taken by gun violence.⠀ ⠀ Now, Brenda is a fierce advocate for gun safety, fighting so others won’t have to experience this same pain.⠀ ⠀ At the link in our bio, read her #MomentsThatSurvive story and share your own.
After learning about a horrific act of mass gun violence in El Paso, Texas, Brenda Moss — whose son, Shawn, was killed by gun violence — had a powerful message for nearly 2,000 volunteers who gathered in D.C. for our annual leadership training this weekend.⠀ ⠀ LISTEN, THEN FIGHT LIKE A MOTHER. ⠀ ⠀ At the link in our bio, send an email to your senators and to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: Demand they pass #SmarterGunLaws NOW.
America’s gun violence crisis in not about mental health. Or video games. Or the internet. That’s what the NRA wants Americans to believe. Gun violence is a crisis in our country because of easy and unfettered access to guns. ⠀ ⠀ The president promised meaningful change on our nation’s gun laws after Parkland, but that change never came. If he wants to advance gun safety laws, he should call Majority Leader McConnell today and get him to take up bipartisan background checks and strong Red Flag legislation.⠀ ⠀ Help us send the Senate a clear message that Americans demand action NOW on gun violence prevention. Text CHECKS to 644-33 to be connected with your senators and tell them to support background checks on all gun sales and a strong Red Flag law.⠀
Seven years ago today, a man with ties to a white supremacist group fatally shot six people and injured four others at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek.⠀ ⠀ Like we saw in El Paso this weekend, when hate comes armed with a gun, it can be deadly. Weak gun laws put marginalized communities at even greater risk of gun-related hate crimes. We must do more to #DisarmHate.⠀ ⠀ Today, honor the victims and survivors of these heinous crimes with action.
ICYMI: While nearly 2,000 Moms Demand Action and @StudentsDemand Action volunteers gathered in Washington D.C. for Gun Sense University – our annual training conference – news broke about the horrific shooting in El Paso, Texas, that took 20 lives and injured 26 more.⠀ ⠀ Take a look at what happened next….
While the U.S. House has passed several crucial gun safety laws in recent months, the Senate continues to drag its feet, obstructed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who refuses to bring these policies to the Senate floor for a vote.⠀ ⠀ Turn your anguish over endless gun violence into action. At the link in our bio, send an email to your senators and to Senator McConnell. Demand they pass gun reform now.
In less than 24 hours, two American cities were devastated by mass acts of gun violence: On Saturday, 20 people were killed and 26 injured in a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas. A 21-year-old white man was arrested by police. Early this morning, nine people were killed and at least 26 injured in a shooting in downtown Dayton, Ohio. The suspect was killed by police.⠀ ⠀ The time for the Senate to act is NOW: Text CHECKS to 644-33 to demand that your senators take meaningful action on gun safety reform.

We’ve kicked off day two of #GSU19, our annual volunteer leadership training, with inspiring stories from students, survivors, volunteers and elected officials, including video addresses from 2020 presidential candidates!⠀ ⠀ “If it wasn’t obvious before, you have moved gun safety from a scarlet letter to a political king and queenmaker,” @everytown president John Feinblatt told the crowd of nearly 2,000. “Thanks to you, candidates aren’t just making gun safety a priority — they’re making it the heart of their campaigns.”
HAPPENING NOW: Hundreds of the most passionate activists in gun violence prevention today have gathered in our nation’s capital for Gun Sense University—our annual volunteer leadership training where we share ideas, best practices and organizing strategies to end gun violence in America.⠀ ⠀ Follow along on our story for great images and messages from #GSU19!
