#repost@thehubblescope with @repostapp ・・・ The Antennae Galaxies in Collision . "And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills." . Two galaxies are squaring off in Corvus and here are the latest pictures. When two galaxies collide, however, the stars that compose them usually do not. This is because galaxies are mostly empty space and, however bright, stars only take up only a small amount of that space. During the slow, hundred million year collision, however, one galaxy can rip the other apart gravitationally, and dust and gas common to both galaxies does collide. In the above clash of the titans, dark dust pillars mark massive molecular clouds are being compressed during the galactic encounter, causing the rapid birth of millions of stars, some of which are gravitationally bound together in massive star clusters. . #amazing #astronomy #beauty #chandra #bible #bibletext #nasabeyond #constellation #creation #galaxy #hubble #hubbletelescope #interstellar #nature #nasa #cosmos #hubblehangout #space #universe #scripture #naturelovers #cosmology #science #hst

#repost@nasa with @repostapp ・・・ What would it be like to actually land on Pluto? This movie was made from more than 100 images taken by ours New Horizons spacecraft over six weeks of approach and close flyby in the summer of 2015. The video offers a trip down onto the surface of Pluto -- starting with a distant view of Pluto -- and leading up to an eventual ride in for a "landing" on the shoreline of Pluto's informally named Sputnik Planitia. After a 9.5-year voyage covering more than three billion miles, New Horizons flew through the Pluto system on July 14, 2015, coming within 7,800 miles (12,500 kilometers) of Pluto. Carrying powerful telescopic cameras that could spot features smaller than a football field, New Horizons sent back hundreds of images of Pluto and its moons that show how dynamic and fascinating their surfaces are. Delta Orionis is a complex star system and constitutes the westernmost star in the "belt" of the Orion constellation. Two of the stars are massive and orbit one another once every 5.7 days. By observing this system for the equivalent of nearly six days with Chandra, new information about these stars was obtained. Massive stars are relatively rare, but are very important to the evolution of their host galaxies. #astronomy #astronomer #astrophysics #space #cosmos #science #physics #universe #stars #planet #astronaut #constellation #interstellar #spacetravel #outerspace #sun #chandra #astrobiology #nasa #hubble #telescope #galaxy #stargazing #starstuff #creation #photography #nature #amazing #exploration #nasabeyond

Cassini uzay aracı, Satürn'ün uydularından küçücük Daphnis'i ilk defa bu kadar yakından görüntüledi. - #repostfrom @cassini.journey The wavemaker moon, Daphnis, is featured in this view, taken as NASA's Cassini spacecraft made one of its ring-grazing passes over the outer edges of Saturn's rings on Jan. 16, 2017. This is the closest view of the small moon obtained yet. ⠀ Fine details in the rings are also on display in this image. In particular, a grainy texture is seen in several wide lanes which hints at structures where particles are clumping together. In comparison to the otherwise sharp edges of the Keeler Gap, the wave peak in the gap edge at left has a softened appearance. This is possibly due to the movement of fine ring particles being spread out into the gap following Daphnis' last close approach to that edge on a previous orbit. ⠀ Image credit: Courtesy NASA/JPL-Caltech ⠀ #nasa #space #cassini #galaxy #nasabeyond #universe #stars #astronomy #science #saturn #vsco

Angel Nebula "My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have l done no hurt The combined light of stars along the Milky Way are reflected by these cosmic dust clouds that soar some 300 light-years or so above the plane of our galaxy. Dubbed the Angel Nebula, the faint apparition is part of an expansive complex of dim and relatively unexplored, diffuse molecular clouds. Commonly found at high galactic latitudes, the dusty galactic cirrus can be traced over large regions toward the North and South Galactic poles. Along with the refection of starlight, studies indicate the dust clouds produce a faint reddishluminescence, as interstellar dust grains convert invisible ultraviolet radiation to visible red light. Also capturing nearby Milky Way stars and an array of distant background galaxies, the deep, wide-field 3x5 degree image spans about 10 Full Moons across planet Earth's sky toward the constellation Ursa Major. #amazing #astronomy #beauty #chandra #bible #bibletext #nasabeyond #constellation #creation #galaxy #hubble #hubbletelescope #interstellar #nature #nasa #cosmos #hubblehangout #space #universe #scripture #naturelovers #cosmology #science #hst

[Photo credits: @aerospace_eng] so excited, proud & honored to announce that Jeanette Epps has been named the first African-American to live at the International Space Station. I will be able to live vicariously through her as she cracks not just a glass ceiling, but the stratosphere. As we pay homage to Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson and Dorothy Vaughan, the three African NASA employees showcased in the movie "Hidden Figures" who were instrumental in sending John Glenn into space, it's only fitting that we are moving forward by sending a black woman to the International Space Station.  The award-winning Epps' accomplishments are impressive. She holds a master's of science and doctorate of philosophy in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland. In addition to being an aerospace engineer, as encouraged by her brother decades ago, she is a patent holder from her work at the Ford Motor Co. as a technical specialist in the Scientific Research Laboratory. She also spent more than seven years working as a technical intelligence officer with the CIA.  While we've had black astronauts in space before, Epps will be the first black person, and just the 13th woman, to live at the International Space Station. Expedition 56/57 is scheduled to launch in May 2018. This historic achievement is made even more special because Katherine Johnson is still with us to appreciate how this announcement is, in part, a result of her work 55 years ago, when Johnson plotted the path for Alan Shepard's 1961 journey to space, the first in American history. Glenn was not cleared to leave Earth until Johnson had double-checked NASA's computer's calculations.
